The Niederbarnim Railway - Your specialist on any trackThe Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG, a non-federally-owned railway company, has been operating successfully since 1901 under the motto "The best routes connecting city and countryside." The Heidekrautbahn (RB27, "Heath Railway"), a line managed by the NEB Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (NEB BG) – a subsidiary of the NEB AG since 2004 – has always been deeply rooted in the history of the region. After winning the right to operate the Oderlandbahn (RB26) right up to Kostrzyn, Poland – continuing on to Gorzów Wielkopolski – the railway has proven itself as a European "bridge-builder" and reliable partner. And that's why the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn was awarded the contract to operate the entire East Brandenburg network. The railway now has a total of 11 lines in motion – with 100 stations in seven Brandenburg districts and Berlin. And not only that, to keep with their usual high quality of regional passenger transport throughout the East Brandenburg network, the railway rejuvenated its fleet in 2016 with seven new two-part Link railcars manufactured by Pesa.
Investments towards more quality, safety and service
The NEB AG manages all types of realty in northern Berlin and in Brandenburg – including 800 properties totaling 1.8 million square meters, half of which are trackage. In addition, the NEB AG operates the Heidekrautbahn (RB27) line and since 1998 has invested a total of 25 million euros in its restoration and modernization.
More than just transporting passengers
Due to NEB AG's unique corporate structure, it is a specialist in rail mobility in Brandenburg and Berlin. The company is a shareholder of Schöneicher-Rüdersdorfer Straßenbahn GmbH (SRS) while owning 66.92 percent of the IGB Industriebahn-Gesellschaft Berlin mbH, second after the rail freight specialist Captrain Deutschland GmbH (a member of the French SNCF Geodis group) and the Berliner Hafen und Lagerhausgesellschaft mbH (BEHALA) of the federal state of Berlin.
For a region with a future
To date, counties and municipalities bordering routes are shareholders of 33 percent of the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn AG. Therefore, as a participant in the region, year after year the NEB AG has been actively engaged in increasing mobility in Brandenburg. After all, connecting urban centers with industry and living space promotes future growth and prospects, which is why the company is strongly committed to the reactivation of the original Heidekrautbahn trunk route. Plan: The start and end point of the Heidekrautbahn at Berlin-Wilhelmsruh, which was discontinued when the Berlin Wall was erected in 1961, is to be revived. This will promote growth in the communities in Barnim, which many municipalities and partners support.
