Exhibitor profile

High Performance Battery Systems

The trend towards global electric transport requires widespread electric solutions for commercial vehicles, buses, trains, and marine vessels. Building on nearly 30 years of experience, AKASOL is a pioneer in developing, testing and manufacturing certified battery systems for the commercial transport sector.

AKASOL is a leading European manufacturer of lithium-ion battery systems that are market ready to deliver safe, reliable and compliant power at scale for major contracts with leading automotive, transport and marine manufacturers. AKASOL has powered more than 1,000 electrified vehicles, with end-customers already travelling millions of kilometres safely and reliably.

Based in Germany, AKASOL has recently opened a new facility in Langen with an annual capacity of 300 MWh which is planned to be expanded to 600 MWh by 2020. To AKASOL's knowledge, this is Europe’s largest production plant for commercial vehicle lithium-ion battery systems, currently capable of producing high-performance battery systems for up to 1,500 fully electric buses or up to 6,000 commercial vehicles per year, depending on battery size.

AKASOL’s systems are manufactured to the industry standards demanded by leading OEM clients. Current clients include Daimler EvoBus, a swedish bus and truck manufacturer, VDL Bus & Coach, Alexander Dennis, Alstom, Bombardier and Bucher Municipal. These clients demand stringent benchmarking for safety across AKASOL’s OEM-certified products, as well as extensive product testing and supply chain traceability.

AKASOL also boasts a technology-independent product portfolio. This allows us to choose the best cells and chemistry according to our clients’ needs. No one quite knows what the future holds for battery technology. But we believe AKASOL’s broad range of technologies, extensive R&D and prototyping means clients are well prepared for whatever the future brings.

The AKASOL AG, based in Darmstadt (Hesse), is led by Sven Schulz (CEO) and Dr. Curt Philipp Lorber (CFO). Co-founders are Felix von Borck, Dr Björn Eberleh and Stephen Raiser.
